Summer is always an exciting time here at Chester Tech. RV season is in full swing, and with it comes a wave of customer feedback, support, and enthusiasm. For Summer 2025, the best-performing and most proven modem platform I offer remains the Qualcomm SDX75. It continues to deliver exceptional performance across use cases, and it’s the heart of my most trusted configurations.

I get asked daily: “When are you getting the SDX85?”

The short answer — it doesn’t exist in a usable form yet. While the X85 modem has been announced, it’s not yet available for small scale nor large scale manufacturing.

To answer another question, no you cannot take a modem out of a phone lol!

There are two form factors for 5G modems:

1. M.2 form factor – This is the preferred option at Chester Tech. It allows for modularity, future upgrades, and mail-in conversions. This is how I’m able to offer SDX62 to SDX75 upgrade services for $350.
2. LGA (Land Grid Array) – This is a much more complex form factor that requires large-scale OEM manufacturing processes (think Netgear, Inseego, etc.). For a one-man operation like mine, producing LGA-based devices is something I am working on but it is in the design phase.
